Exciting New Recreational Projects Developing in Phuket Including the Completion of a New Luxury 8over8 Hotel from Castlewood Group
New International Airport for Phuket
Upgrades are now underway for the New International Airport in Phuket, Thailand, which is worth THB5.7 billion. Due to the growing number of visitors to Phuket and surrounding areas, the airport is undergoing a major update in order to improve its facilities and to increase its capacity to up to 11.5 million passengers by 2016. Phuket airport is the second busiest airport in Thailand after Bangkok's Suvarnabhumi with currently 10 airlines servicing it and more than 2,900,000 passengers passing through per year.

Meanwhile other recreational projects are developing. The island is also seeing a sports complex worth THB2.6 billion, which will be positioned in northern Phuket. This new project will help bring in sport activities and events and is the largest of its kind in Southeast Asia. The Phuket International Academy Sports and Leisure Club offers a range of facilities including an International Rugby pitch a FIFA approved football field, a six course tennis academy, a 500 metre athletics running track, a high tech gym and both 25 metre and 50 metre swimming pools. Also included in the facilities are a Thai herbal garden spa and an arts centre. All of the sports and leisure facilities are international standard and can accommodate professional athletes as well as serving locals and tourists alike. It is hoped that the complex will bring in a different aspect of tourism to Phuket that many of the Islands hotels can benefit from.

Castlewood Hotels and Resorts 8over8 Hotel is currently being designed by renowned architects, Original Vision who won the 2010 Best Apartment in the World for Kata Rocks in Phuket, and project management company, Cornerstone Management who has 25 years experience in construction and design in Thailand.
